Here are the highlights of what was covered:
I ran across this video today. It's meant for coaches but this let's you get inside my head a little bit. I'm looking for the first couple kinds of players on the team. What kind of player do you think you are?
I'm putting an email I just received on the blog because it addresses (in part) some of the issues we've been talking about at practice - the melt-downs, not being able to close out a match, tensing up and making mistakes... The video at the end is helpful until the end - then he tries to sell you something (which you can buy if you want and I'm sure it would be helpful)...
Here is a great (short) article that shows the 3 most common arrangements on the court - 2 up, 2 back or staggered.
Ladies - We've been able to talk a little about doubles strategy last couple times together. I found a couple videos that explain why it is best to get both players to the net, when to poach and general movement in doubles. Watch these a couple times really. They're that good. Same deal as before - leave a helpful comment about what you learned and you will earn an iTunes gift card. This will help you GET THE CEMENT OUT OF YOUR SHOES...
I appreciated all the parents that came last night. If you didn't make it please make sure you understand what was covered below.
Ladies. I set up this blog to give some extra resources to learn the game of tennis. It is amazing what is available right now online. So I'm going to share a couple of my favorite sites. For extra incentive - the first 10 players to post a helpful comment on something you learn throughout the season you'll earn an iTunes gift card.
Here are my two favorite sites: FuzzyYellowBalls.com - Here is a basic lesson on how to grip the racquet JorgeCapestany.com - Check out this great video on the serve toss Fellas. I found these videos today on the overhead. They go into more detail about what coach Tim and I were talking about but breaks it down step by step. There are 2 free videos currently that address proper footwork and what to do with your upper body. They are a little longer but very worthwhile.
